5 Reasons You Should Be Using LINUX.
Linux is a very useful operating system, and it's a surprise how a lot of people do not already know about it.
On September 17, 1991 Linus Torvalds posted a project he had been working, due to the fact that at that time there was a need for a kernel that wasn’t proprietary software and was open-source.
It is said that if you want something done right, do it yourself. Which was exactly what Torvalds did, and due to the fact that it was open sourced it opened the door for other developers to build on it, and that gave birth to all the Linux distributions (distros) that exist today.
Here are reasons Linux should be the operating system you are using today.
1. Most Distributions Are FREE!!
Yes, you read that right. Most Linux distributions cost no money at all, only Linux distributions you’ll ever have to pay for are usually not ones needed by a regular user. Why are these distributions free you might ask? Well it all boils down to these three points:
The Linux kernel is completely open-source and not owned by any one person or company.
A lot of developers try to experiment and build OS for certain purposes.
It’s relatively easy to build operating systems using the Linux kernel.
2. Linux Kernel Code Is Open-Source.
The code for Linux is open source meaning any developer with the right resources can build an operating system, in whatever way they want.
The world should be grateful for Linux Torvalds for this decision, else I wonder where we will be.
3. It Is The Back-Bone Of A Lot Of Technology!?!
Linux runs more than you know. Over 41.5% of web servers run on Linux (mostly Ubuntu, one of the most popular distributions) so even this website most likely runs off a Linux server.
Android, which 70% of mobile owners use also uses the Linux kernel on it.
4. It’s Not All That COMPLEX!
Contrary to what you might have been told, Linux is not all that complex to use, at least not anymore. In the early days of Linux it was somewhat complex for normal users to see their way around the operating system. But that problem has been and is being solved by the continuous development of Linux distributions by a ton of developers working collaboratively. If you are a developer you could probably find the Github repository of most distributions and build on it.
5. Developer Support And Free Applications!
With Linux you get a lot of developers who work on the operating system constantly improving it and providing support and help to whoever needs it. Is there a bug? A developer could just create a pull request and fix it.
There are also a lot of applications for basically anything. For one particular task there could be a hundred something applications for it, so it’s pretty hard to find software that really require you to pay because there are always free and open-source alternatives.
With these few couple of reasons, you should be able to see the importance of Linux operating systems, now would probably be the best time to head on to Linux.org to pick your flavor.
Thanks. Stay Smart.
